If you are like me, you wonder how you will look like when your hair turns gray. Here’s a clue: look at your parents. Often, genetic factors determine how early in life we will have gray hair. Graying is a natural course of aging and it takes place when the cells in the hair shaft stop producing pigment. This lack of pigment will result in hair losing most of its color. Thus it turns gray. But there is good news! While you cannot stop it from getting gray you can definitely slow down the graying process.
If you want to learn how to avoid gray hair for a while, I have some tips for you. These can slow down the advance of your gray hair:
1. I don’t want to sound like a kill joy, but if you want to avoid gray hair early in life, you have to stop smoking! Scientific studies have shown that smoking leads to ageing of your whole body, inside and out. And that aging includes the graying of the hair. If you are really serious about preventing gray hair for as long as humanly possible, you have to give up the cigarettes. Not only you will prevent early gray hair, but you will also look younger in general.
2. Another thing to avoid is stress, which has been proven tor result in early aging. We live in a very stressful world — just turn on the TV and you will see the problems we’re all facing. But you don’t have to worry about all these things! There are a lot of things you can do to relax. While I cannot tell you what you need to do to relax, since each person has his or her own preference, I can suggest reading a good book or enjoy a nice long run. Whatever works for you! And make sure you do it on a regular basis.
Some people have a lot of excuses for not relaxing — like they are busy. But that is just not true. Do you know that no matter how busy you are, you can spare a few minutes a day to de-stress. It’s really just a matter of doing that is important first (priorities). Instead of getting stressed out reading the morning paper or watching the evening news, why not relax by doing some activity you actually enjoy?
3. Are you getting enough metals in your diet? When your body isn’t getting enough copper, this leads to a breakdown and cause gray hair. The good news is that there are many things you can do to get more copper into your system. You can take a supplement, or you can eat foods that have a lot of copper such as lima beans, spinach, yams, and meat.
In today’s world, we cannot just do what we are doing and expect to fight aging, We have to slow down, and avoid things that lead to gray hair — such as smoking, stress and lack of essential metals in our diet. You will find a lot of support because of the growing anti-aging movement.
If you follow the simple tips above, you will definitely slow down the graying of your hair.
